Expecting the Unexpected

Missions trips are about expecting (& praying for) the unexpected. The itinerary sometimes goes out the window as God opens His own window of opportunity. This is exactly what happened with the Wakefield (UK) team when they spent 10-days on mission in Insuretei (Romania).

In countries like Slovakia teams are often welcomed into local schools to take English lessons, but this has not been the case in Romania. In fact they have been off-limits to mission teams, which is why this story is such a miracle!

The team went to meet the local Mayor, but he was late so they waited in a local park. They got talking to the sports teacher from a nearby school who took them to see the Headmaster & English teacher. To cut a long story short, the team ended up taking impromptu English lessons over the next 3 days. Their leader, Kevin Foster, had been praying for opportunities, & God more than answered his prayers. Not only had Kevin taken a football kit with him, (just in case!) which he left with the school, but unknown to him the kit turned out to be that of Steau Bucharest, a Romainian football team, which was perfect!

The team have been invited back next year & are keeping in touch with the teachers via email. There’s more… the team met with the Mayor (armed with a gift from the Wakefield Mayor) & he gave them permission to hold a meeting outside in the park on Sunday. Some of the school kids came to this meeting, & almost 100 people gathered in the park. In ‘Insuretei’ terms, this is revival! So come on, expect the unexpected, & see what God can do!

Visas

Well with very little pomp or ceremony we received our visas a couple of weeks ago, all approved and without so much as a question! Many of you were praying that God would get them through with out a hitch and that's what happened. Thank you for standing with us. We are now able to plan trips and get back on track with work. My next trips will be to Slovakia to help with the finalisation of the current Slovakia Church planting project and then to North America for National office meetings.

Family News

The biggest news is the return of our passports with new 5 year visas so we feel we can focus on other things now. Scott is very busy as the year speeds to an end with a number of projects to be done before 2009. Lynda had her review at the bank recently and got excellent feedback. Asha is doing well health wise and is busy with her hairdressing, as everyone wants to look good for Christmas! Daniel is now driving and managed to pass his test first go, (which is unusual here in the UK).

This Christmas we have been invited to celebrate Christmas with a number of other ex-pat Aussies. Imagine a group of frostbitten aussies standing in snow around a bbq and you get the picture!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful support and hope and pray that you have a wonderful Christmas this year, spent with family and friends and that 2009 will be the best year yet!
